A friend in need?

Asked a man to a tree,
Will you help me?
I am in dire need,
Can you lend me some seed?
I would harvest them,
And wait for its stem,
And sell the fruit,
For some daily food.

Yes, said the tree,
I shall help thee,
You shall take my seed,
And satisfy your need,
But I want nothing,
Not right now,
When time arrives,
I will tell what and how.

Agreed the man,
And he took the seeds,
Because of the tree,
A happy life he leads.

Again came the man,
"Help me? You can?,
I need some clothes"
He comes and quotes.
The weather is cool,
I need some wool.
To stay warm and light,
In this winter night.

Yes, you may,
Take it all,
Save yourself,
This shivering fall.
But again I remind,
I am being kind,
I want nothing,
Not right now,
When time arrives,
I will tell what and how.

He came again and again,
Everytime with new pain.
Sometimes food,
Sometimes shelter,
Sometimes shadow and so on.

Everytime he came,
He got nothing to blame,
His every demand,
the tree would grant.

And one sad day,
In the month of may,
Came a back the man,
In a huge van.
He had tools with him
And he started to trim,
The tree was to die,
When it started to cry.
It shed a few drops,
Asked the man to stop.

He came back from the town
To chop the tree down,
He wanted wood for home,
As his children had grown.
The tree refused
To help anymore,
The man got angry,
He got sore.

He went ahead,
With anger – red,
He did not stop,
Again started to chop.

The tree then spoke,
To that greedy bloke,

Cut me down
Throw me away
Take my wood,
If you wish, you may.
But remember this,
Not long from now,
When you will need me,
You will reach me how?
I will be no more,
To help you out,
No more wool,
No more sprout.
No more wood,
No more bark,
No more shadows,
For children’s park.
He paid no heed,
And let the tree bleed.

A few years on,
After the tree was gone,
Summer temperatures rose,
And winters froze,
People need more care,
Breathing unfit air.
Water got scarce,
Ozone layer tears,
Animals died,
And the man cried.

The neighbouring tree then called the man,
Told him, its not over, he still can,
Turn around and see,
There are still some trees.
Please help us grow,
Just water and sow.
